I want to thank Mark Milligan, Paul Martin, and Mike Vogel for their willingness to preach for our Church Improvement series this year. God has richly blessed us with these men. They genuinely love God’s Word and our church family enough to devote the many hours needed to prepare and faithfully preach God’s Word. If you have not already done so, I would encourage you to reach out to let them to let them know of your appreciation.
This next Sunday, we will hear a message from Jon Payne, our district superintendent. He will be preaching from Ephesians 4:7-16. I would encourage you to read through the passage this week to help prepare you for Sunday’s sermon.
Grateful for God’s provision,
Pastor Steve

Service and Outreach Ministry
By Connie Shradel
“Our purpose is to display the greatness of God. We aim to do this by declaring his greatness and serving others for joy and his honor.”
Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” These are recorded as the last words Jesus spoke before he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of human presence.
The function of the Service and Outreach Ministry is to communicate ways that we can love, serve and share Christ in our Jerusalem named Janesville and Rock County.
Once a month there is a coordinated Sunday afternoon event to knock on doors in our neighborhoods to offer witness of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Typically less than a handful of people participate but there is hope that more will feel called to join in. In December a couple of Pilipino ladies opened their door and welcomed the opportunity to hear about Jesus. In January God used this activity to lead a young woman to the saving knowledge of Christ! Please pray for these women that they will begin to attend church and learn more of what Christ has for them.
This event is not glamorous as the majority of people who make the effort to answer their doors express no interest in discussing Jesus. BUT as we know from the parable of the Lost Sheep, Jesus cares about the one lost sheep being restored to his fold. If you have questions about this outreach event Les Mitchell would be happy to speak with you.
The service and outreach team is excited to share with the congregation an opportunity to meet some needs of young image bearers attending Edison Middle School. The school social worker has expressed that this school has a very needy population in our community.
We have recently begun collecting some items to help supply the school's kids closet. This closet is available to school staff to be used as needed. There are a variety of reasons that a child may need the items contained in the closet. The current immediate needs are notebooks, belts size 30/32 and shoes, gently used or new. Women’s sizes 8, 9, 10 and Men’s sizes 10, 11,12. We as a body have an opportunity to search our closets and wallets in order to fulfill these needs.
I will keep in communication with the student services department for updated needs and will be sure to share those with you all.
An upcoming opportunity to volunteer for TUTORING struggling students is in the planning stages. It is hoped that we can begin to engage in tutoring by the end of March. This will allow time for parent/teacher conferences to be conducted, which will help identify specific student needs. Norm Persick is our school liaison as he is a teacher in the school. We are thankful for him making us aware of the children’s needs and helping to coordinate how to best meet them.
A few details that I currently know:
The hours of tutoring would be from 3:40 – 4:15/4:30 weekdays.
A background check will need to be complete for each volunteer. A link to the application will become available soon.
There may be an opportunity to conduct a Bible Study during the student lunch hour.
We will keep you posted in the church weekly email as this project develops. We welcome your interest and participation.
Not everyone will be able to participate in every service opportunity that is presented. But, we can and should all participate in some. Jesus demonstrated to us over and over again what it looks like to serve our neighbors. The possibilities are numerous! This is how we declare his greatness, by serving others for His honor and our joy through the power of the Holy Spirit.
We hope you will join us on Sunday! The sermon outline, discussions questions, and sermon audio recording will be available on the church website at http://www.riverhillsonline.org/sermons.
River Hills Worship - YouTube Playlist We encourage individuals, families, and small groups to sing these songs during their worship times this week. We hope this will help the children among us to become more familiar with the worship songs we will be singing together on Sunday.
